Title: oil leak from oil pipes.
Post by: AdrianS on 20 Apr, 2020, 11:44
Getting through my snagging list on my A50 and the next problem is the oil leak from the oil pipes under the engine.
I'm having problems locating a gasket : 68-0274
Is it just thick gasket paper? If so I shall make one myself.
The next problem is access. Can the engine be lifted a little to allow better access to the securing bolt? If so, whats the best way to tackle the job?
I had a similar problem with my B40 but access was much better. The supplied gasket from one of the well known suppliers was aweful - holes didnt line up and was deficient around the edges!

Cheers

Adrian

Hi Adrian,
First check to see if the oil feed junction under the engine has recess for O rings. If not normal thin gasket made yourself will be fine or consider changing the oil junction with recesses for O rings. Better still change the junction with the additional pipe for the rocker oil feed which is better all round.

If you need more info on the rocker feed adaption let the forum know.

Removing the junction is fiddly as long as the thin head retaining bolt has been used. If a normal bolt has been used you will have trouble.

Best wishes...

Cheers Bess.
It is an early A50 and Ive not dismantled it yet. I assume it will be a gasket as I think I can see one. The nut looks quite thin. I can just get a spanner to it and have tried to tighten it but it feels very tight.
Is there an upgraded union then for using O rings? If so, any info would be appreciated. Not considered the rocker feed pipe. Not looked at that yet!

But no stock at present!
But notice Burton Bike bits are listing them

Is it a straight swap and what happens to the rocker feed pipe?
