Hi all
Once again I am after your good advice and recommendations brake shoes & gaiters
I have purchased a set of front 8" tls shoes from a reputable supplier and they are 2.5 mm wider than the originals both cam and anchor end is this a case of shave to fit or look for another supplier ?
Also gaiters I purchased what I thought was good quality Wassell product and fitted to my slow build they have been on the bike on the ramp for about a year and they have split in two places just being stood is this to be expected ? As ever comments and advice gratefully received
Thanks
Mitch

Should not have to file bits off new parts to make them fit.

Is it the usual BSA/Triumph TLS setup?

As for the gaiters sounds disappointing. I try to avoid parts with w on them had too many poor ones.

I had a Honda Fireblade, new when they first came out. there was an automatic recall as the pads were sticky, rode for a fortnight and had to take it back in , had them filed down until a new set arrived from Honda.

unfortunately Wassells are the main supplier for many retailers, if the parts are sub standard everyone gets them. I rang them as the pack of 10 footrest rubbers they sent all went off at an angle, moulded wrong. ordered but obvious no quality control at the factory and presumed ok when arrived in the UK. In our business, we as a manufacturer are responsible for the quality comming out of the machine shop, the main works just assemble , test and send out. production is so high that they cant afford mess ups and hold ups on the production/test cell as it holds other stations up.
Ive mentioned elsewhere about Tricor waiting for Wassells cables, just rebagged.

An original 8 inch TLS BSA/Triumph shoe has linings 1 5/8 inch wide.

The cam end of shoe is approx 15.3 mm and the other end approx 17.8mm.

If you have a pair of original shoes I suggest getting them relined by a brake specialist. You will likely get a better brake than by using some of the new shoes offered. I doubt many suppliers of new shoes could tell you the material or the characteristics of the lining material whereas a specialist would be able to offer a suitable material or choice of suitable materials.

Shoes below will have woven linings fitted at some point.
