Title: C15S Frame and Engine Numbers
Post by: Joeblogs on 11 Apr, 2020, 13:11
Hi,

I have a 1962 registered C15S looking at the dating info the frame number the year is fairly close (C15S2328) However the engine albeit an earlier dizzy type is not an S engine, the engine number is C1540802, anyone have any info as to what year this could be and would it be a full roller crank or a bushed R/H side?

Thanks.

Dating information available on the BSAOC site;

https://www.bsaownersclub.co.uk/machine_id.php

Frame C15S 2328 is 1960 and could have been either a scrambler or trials model.

The engine is 1962 season from a C15 Star, you will not know about the type of bigend  without a physical check because it is/was not uncommon to upgrade to later more robust parts.

Only the C15G engines, intorduced in 1966,  had all ball bearing main bearings. It was possible to convert the bush to a needle roller with an Alpha Bearings kit.

Thanks,
I have seen the roller bearing conversions on-line, I already have the engine out but was hoping if I pull the R/H cover off you can tell if it's bearing or bush, if not I will open it up, as I would like to make sure its has a roller bearing on the R/H before the engine goes back in.
