Afternoon, all. Feeling bored? You will be.
I happened to notice in a sketch in my owners' handbook (1965 B40F) that the battery was originally held in place by a clip. Mine hasn't got a clip, but has the vertical plate that the clip locates on. I've been using a plastic tie, which is not very good because every time I take the battery out I need a new tie and the old one is then more plastic waste. Before I try to to find a clip to buy, I thought I'd just check on this forum that they are okay - wouldn't want to buy one if the design is problematic in any way. From what I can see on the sketch, it looks a pretty straightforward wire clip, on the principle of what I used to know as an over-centre clip. Any comments please? Phil
many Japanese bikes have batteries held in with rubber straps, some with metal hooks on the end. have been using and can last for many years.

If you have Rupert Ratio part 2 it provides advice and a pattern to remake the clip. Welding rod or coat hanger used for the wire part. Need to do it myself really.....but my old inner tube and wooden toggle has got by so far.
Thanks Hoogerbooger. I do have RR vol 2, but didn't realise/ remember it included that. I would make rather than buy. Any comments about the design, anyone? Phil
I had to make the same battery clip when I was restoring my B40. I found this sketch that I made at the time of the pieces needed and the dimensions I used. The wire was from a wire coat hanger and the plate was an offcut I had lying around. Needs to be bent accurately to make it work properly - took me three attempts to get it right - but coat hangers are cheap!!!
Thanks for this, PeteA10. I just need to decide which drawing to work to, yours or Rupert's! Should be fun to make anyway, and there will probably of course be a bit of fiddling to get a decent fit! Phil.
I made one making my own pattern in cardboard as a template.
Worked very well. Just a bit of wire bending and tin folding.
