Title: A10 exhaust
Post by: Plammiman on 28 Mar, 2020, 22:33
I have bluing of my exhausts. I am pretty happy with timing and carb settings. Does anyone know what the wall thickness is on a typical exhaust?

Hi,

It is well worth coating the inside of exhaust pipes with a very high temp. exhaust paint.  This will greatly reduce the tendency for blueing.   With new or very clean pipes just spray in to the end of the pipe, perhaps a few thin coats rather than risk getting runs that could cause hot spots.  With siamese pipes do this at the joint as well as this can be a spot that gets discoloured.
The blueing can be polished out.

Dave.

Hi,
Just measured 3 different types, a tad under 1.5mm.

Best wishes...

Hi thanks all
The pipes are patterns and measure around 1.5 mm wall thicknesses they seem the same as Bess mentioned. I will give the paint a go and see how that works.
Stay safe

If they are siamised pipes check the inside at the join - I had a pattern set and they had a undersize hole at the join giving a bad ridge and blueing
An hour or so with a rotary grinder solved problem.
