Title: M20 kick start
Post by: Mike Farmer on 05 Mar, 2020, 20:32
 :) :) :)

Hi All.
I'm having a problem fitting the kick start to my M20. I have just changed to the later type gearbox and I don't know if the kick start actually fitted previous box. It is a new Kicker.

The cotter pin runs through the kick start ok (when its off the bike)  but will simply not go through far enough to make the correct fit. At best it only goes through by a couple of threads. I have tried it on a spare quadrant and the problem remains and the same with a different kicker.

So was the original M20 starter completely different at the end of the shank.

Your help and advice appreciated as per.

It seems that the hole in your kick start is in a slightly different position.  You can get cotter pins with a larger angled grind. This will allow the pin to go further through the kick start, I have had to do this.

Thanks for that.

My thoughts would be the hole wrongly positioned. I have actually refaced a cotter pin but with only limited improvement.

I shall try to find my old kick start and check it out.
