Doing an oil change on my C15 and the sump filter mesh has 2 holes in it. If you look inside the sump there is the pump suction pipe which goes through a hole in the filter mesh so it can suck from the filtered side of the mesh. this I understand. But, there is also another hole which seems to be below another pipe which would be above the mesh if the hole was not there. I assume the this pipe is the return line.The bottom line is why is the second hole there. The hole means that the filter mesh is useless. I have managed to get one off of ebay and there is only one hole which is what I would expect.
Any thoughts please. why would there be a second hole or why would someone have created one.
have had two holes on a couple of different bikes, as the hole is probably off centre a previous owner has probably fitted the filter the wrong way round, from memory the single hole used to have a ring brazed around it for strength. multipe attempts at fitting the filter incorrectly wears an extra hole or enlarges the existing one

I think that the second hole is to do with models that had a tube as part of the pressure release system so that the oil blew in to sump for scavenging back to the tank. If yours does not have the second tube then the gauze should only have one hole. If I remember correctly my B40F had the second tube.

will have another look at the B40 and A50 then, Ive just cleaned both , the B40 rebuilt, the A50 not touched apart from draining sump, the A10 been off so many times between wet sumping and flat battery I know has two holes but only one pipe goes through.
What year is your bike as the later ones had two holes.I think 65 or 66 after this a different oil pump with a larger sump plate was fitted
