Title: Single Seat for 1952 rigid M21
Post by: 13Brads on 25 Feb, 2020, 14:09
Hello. Due to a dodgy spine, I am considering replacing the dual seat on my M21 with a single sprung saddle. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for doing this please. This is a bike that went two up overland from London to Australia in the 1960's, and I am trying to keep it as it was at that time, but it looks like I may have to compromise on the seat in order to continue using it.
Thanks for any comments.
Brad

When I restored my '57 rigid the seat was too far gone to be saved and I rather reluctantly bought a new one - Wassell I think. It's actually OK but I had to make a bracket to fix across the underside for the spring top mounting bolts as the seat frame itself was too far back. This is just a piece of steel strap with the ends turned up to fit the frame and bolted through.

Cheers,
Bernie

Thanks for that Bernie.
I have just seen one on the Classic Bike Shop site for £42 which may well be adequate for my needs. I will sleep on it and may well give it a go tomorrow.
