Title: Primary Chain rattle BSA C15
Post by: Geoff_Hull on 24 Feb, 2020, 21:32
Hi Guys
Has anyone had trouble with a rattling primary chain on a 1964 BSA C15, and has anyone retrofitted a primary chain tensioner. Any details would be welcomed.
Cheers

Hi Geoff,

I believe that there is a primary chain tensioner inside the primary case as on B40s and B25s etc.  It is slipper tensioner and if memory serves, the cover has to be removed to make any adjustment.

Dave.

If no tensioner fitted then the service sheet below explains how to fit one. It works for the C15 Star.

A good idea to fit one if not already fitted.
The chain can contact one or two of the bosses through which the cover holding screws pass and wear them down, if the chain is too loose.

B40 has one, if its rattling bad it may not improve with a tensioner, Ive just changed ours and Regina solid link one was tight but the Reynold split link one was better.
