Title: B40 fork stanchions
Post by: chaz on 17 Feb, 2020, 14:24
just wondering if there is an alternative to the 41-5015 fork stantions for the B40? can only find one supplier over £100 for the pair while the rest go from £60. o/all length is 22" is there an alternative part number maybe Triumph>?

41 5015 is unique to the B40 (Not the WD) and the competition C15 with heavyweight forks.

The B40 did not sell too well, total production was a bit less than 11000 (excluding the WD) and  I suspect demand for fork shafts is limited hence higher price.

Have you considered reclaimimg the originals by hard chroming and grinding back to original size?

thanks for the explanation Julian, however I suspect they are bent as it was a flat tracker.

The stanchions for an A10 and B33 measure 22 inches. I think it's only the legs that are different.

Julian...
engineers head on here,
if the stanchions are only half an inch longer then, maybe longer top nuts or a spacer could be fitted...
seen it done on modern bikes to increase spring force.

The B40 legs are about 21 3/4 long.

As the legs are not parallel top to bottom you would need to make sure that the part of the leg passing through the bottom yoke is the correct shape to ensure proper clamping.

I think that the spacing between the yokes is less on the B40 than on the A10.

If you change the spacing between yokes then you would lose length on the stem for the steering bearing adjuster.

You might be able to shorten the legs, re taper and re thread the shaft top.

ordered a pair of A50/65 stanchions from Wassels £40+vat trade, if no good on the B40 then can use them on the A50 later.
fitted today and as the B40 has the external springs there is 3/4" gap between the spring and bottom yoke, so next job is to make a couple of spacers which will hide down in the seal holders so, job done for less than half the price.
all other dimensions and fittings were the same, should help with the rider who is 6ft 4in.

now got a pair of internal springs spare as bought before stripping , duh..
