Hello
I am the owner of an a1969 BSA B25S which I am in the process of restoring it in my country France.
The number stamped on my engine is: XC8911B25S-- The frame number stamped is XC8911
I wanted to add an oil pressure sensor switch to my motorcycle.
So I removed the screw (1/2 "thread) at the location and ordered a swith from Dranganfly cie, they sent it but it was too small , I told them and here is their answer below:
"We have checked our records and your engine number is not listed, we believe this could have been an experimental machine, you may wish to contact the BSAOC to confirm.
The oil pressure switch, according to the B25 part books was only used on the 1970 machines. We do not have any other replacement option so will apply a refund on receipt."
The only switch they have has a much smaller thread diameter, ( see foto ) do you have an explanation? solution for me ?
thank you in advance
Kind regards
Eric
That part on the left looks like the timing hole plug. Is it from the LH crankcase just below the barrel at front of engine? For example the OIF B50 which had the machining for the oil pressure switch but didn't have one fitted, there was an allen grub screw in the hole for the switch. As Julian stated, the model year of your bike didn't have provision for a pressure switch.
Your number is a normal B25 Starfire number, made in December 1968 (a 1969 season model)
Not an experimental number.
The 1969 season bikes did not have an oil pressure switch and I suspect that the 1/2 inch screw you have removed is actually the timing hole plug.
I read somewhere that some switches had a tapered pipe thread and some had a straight thread. I came across this when I restored my A65 !!
Service sheet 179 of August 1968 shows the possibility of attaching an oil pressure gauge by unscrewing a 1/8"- 27 TPI plug from the bottom of the timing case.
Thank you for your comments which allowed me to realize that this hole is not to fix an oil switch because it was not planned in 1969.
Which made me think of the possibility of a oil switch, it's because there is an unused red light on my headlight.
As I bought this motorbike 3 months ago, I don't know its history but I now understand why red light was not connected.
Thank you for your insight on the question.
Kindest regards :)
Eric
Hi Eric,
Are you aware that there are BSAOC members in France? They are bit spread out but there should be a contact on the BSAOC website.
Dave.
Good evening and thank you for the information,
I had a look and the only result I found is the BSA Club de France on facebook.
I don't have facebook and don't want to have it.
And even if, unless I am mistaken, I see that their last publications are
from September 2018.
It may be more appropriate to join a club like yours with numbers of posts, information,journal...
I think about that
Kindest regards
ERic
Hi Eric,
Sorry you could not find the French Club. You can join the BSAOC UK and there many overseas members. If you look at the top of the forum you should see 'How to join the BSAOC' once joined you will be able to access the members area and find a contact for the French BSAOC.
Dave.
