Title: WM20 chaincase
Post by: Mike Farmer on 28 Jan, 2020, 11:33
 :) :) :)

Hi all--Assistance please.

The "slider" that goes between the chaincase and the clutch basket????

Which way around should it be fitted. I've got it together and something doesn't feel right(The clutch basket is wobbly) so this is a good starting point.

1944 WM20 with later gearbox and single spring clutch. Are they compatible. -- If not will the later clutch fit. And anything else that you can think of

Mike, took this picture when i was working on my 1948 M21.
With regards to the clutch, mine is a 6 spring and when the plates are out it is very wobbly.

Mike, when you refer to the later type gearbox do you mean the M20/21 later gearbox?

Looking at Drags it seems the single spring clutch was used with both boxes

The single spring clutch was used with the later M20 box in the AA serie M21's so I'm guessing it will fit.  I think the mainshafts were all the same from the WDM20 gearbox onwards.  The part number and diagram on the Draganfly website seems to confirm this.  All the best, Glenn

Greetings all and thanks very much.

The slider is as shown so that's OK

Yes its the M20/M21 box and having looked at Drags I agree the mainshaft is the same. Which is pleasing.

On closer inspection The clutch sleeve is not in best of health. I tried it on a spare shaft and there is a bunch of wobble so I've ordered a new one. Will keep you in the picture.

Again advice much appreciated

I can't get rid of the drag on my single spring clutch despite trying all the optiosn except the WD mod involving drilling and threading the retaining ring to fit 4 agjuster screws.
When I get round to it I and going to fit the 4 spring clutch using the adapter Kidderminster Motorcycles supply.

+ 1 on that Dean.. I gave up on trying to get my single spring clutch working correctly on my WDM20 as I believe we have discussed in some muddy field in the past. The Kidderminster clutch although a cost has lasted now for over 4000 miles with no messing around!! Just come back from the Hotrod rally on the M20 with no issues whatsoever there and back..  :)

Hello Mike,  Kidderminster Motorcycles sell a complete 4 spring clutch kit (includes all plain and friction plates too) with a no cush drive clutch centre and the hub machined to fit straight onto the pre-unit single mainshaft. As I stated before it's at a cost which may prove to be unacceptable, but I like to fit parts that don't require much fettling afterwards.. HTH

Clutch from Kidderminster outside my wish to spend. However have purchased new clutch centre and "wobble" appears to be sorted.
