Title: B31 exhaust
Post by: DEDGE on 14 Jan, 2020, 10:43
Hi All
Need a new exhaust for the 1949 b31 I am renovating, live in Dorset so thought of going to Armour's. Anyone know  How do they compare for quality etc with someone like Dragonfly.

Thanks   Dedge

I've always had good service from Armours, I've used them on several occasions and they seem to know what they are talking about when it comes to selecting the correct system for certain bikes.

Generally good, thought the only unusable exhaust they sent me was for my B31. The were pretty grumpy about replacing it, implying it was my fault (the exhaust pipe hit the ground when fitted) but they did eventually replace it with a good one.

I have Armours pipes and silencers fitted to both my Matchless 500 single and 500 twin when they were first restored by my father and myself some 25 years ago. The chrome is still in excellent condition on both bikes. The fit was good, though the hole in the front mounting bracket of the single's pipe needed 'moving' by about 1/2 an inch. A large washer covers the hole now. The fit of the silencer of the single over the down pipe could be tighter as it needs the shim replacing every so ften to stop it popping on the overrun.
A couple of years ago I got a set of pipes for my plunger Flash from them which weren't quite right when it came to fit but I got there eventually. I did ring them to let them know and did get a 'grumpy' response telling me all A10s are slightly different and their pipes were made on a jig so couldn't be wrong, which may or may not be the case. Perhaps they just don't like negative or even constructive feedback. Otherwise the pipes are fine and look good.
I do need to get a set of pipes for a Panther that Im restoring. As Panthers are notoriously variable when it comes to exhast port angles, I intend to have at least the downpipes custom made in stailess steel, though depending on cost would happily fit Armours silencers.

only bought one from them many years ago and only problem was a bracket out of position, had to make a link piece to go between.

Have a look at Feked.
Silencers hand made in Dorset and triple chromed .

So, out of the four responses, three people have had Armours exhausts that didn't fit. I haven't used them myself as I've heard too many similar stories.

I used Feked. Fitted perfectly and superb quality.

You could take your pipe into Armours and compare it the theirs before you buy I suppose.

Hi All
Thanks for the advice was going to get one from Armours, but they were out of stock, so got one from Fecked  £178,62 with delivery. Came today quality looks good, pipe fitted at the head and bracket ok, but the pipe at the silencer end is about 6 inches to long is it normal just to cut this off to the right length. Silencer seems to be good quality.
All the Best

Yes. Normal to have to cut exhaust pipe to suit.
