Hello all
Could anyone help out with a query I have about the top yoke for a 1958 Super Rocket please
The one on mine has 42-5035 stamped into the bottom but the parts book shows 42-5036, is this a mistake? The A7 shows a 42-5035 bit can't be that different can it?
As always, any help appreciated
5036 is the same casting as 5035 it is just machines differently. The 2 bosses on the top of 5036 are drilled and tapped to accept a speedo and tachometer mounting plate and the bosses are also machined to be level with the top of the fork shaft holes so the mounting plate seats properly.
Thanks Julian
Mine has 5035 stamped on it but has the two holes tapped into it so looks like a mod?
Not that worried but just wanted to know a bit more about the parts
A few photos.
First top view of 5036.
Second underside view with casting number 5035.
Third yoke fitted.
Thanks Julian.
I've checked mine out and the bosses aren't machined level with the fork shaft holes, i think the bosses have been drilled and tapped out to what i think is M6 at a later date (an M6 bolt screws in nicely so i am assuming that's the size) so i think its been a mod by the looks of it.
I am thinking that i will leave it as is, but i want to put the clock bracket back on which leaves the question if it isn't machined level then will the fork tops not be screwed in as much. Its only a few mm but would that make a difference.
I think that originally the clocks had the single bracket which was secured on by using the fork bolts so i'm guessing that its not a problem.
If using the bracket as in my photo then fuly tightening the fork top nuts would bend it, those nuts need to be really tight to draw the shafts into the taper.
I would suggest simply filing the bosses level.
Hi Julian
The bosses are lower than the fork shaft holes are probably 5mm ish higher. When it was fitted and before I took it off the centre bolts were not fitted it was held by the fork tops
Think I might look at the individual brackets as well
