What are the symptoms?

Is this something that has just occurred or has the clutch been apart/rebuilt etc?

Do the gears select ok when engine not running?

It's a recent rebuild.
I can select 2nd to 4th when engine isn't running but 1st is difficult to select.
When the engine is warm it just wont select first.
I think it's all down to clutch pushrod and cable adjustment that I just cant get right.

did you /whoever rebuilt it, check the selector  plate? how about the springs in the fingers?
was it checked for operation when on the bench, should have been able to turn the sprocket and run through the gears.
is the pushrod the correct length and is there a ball bearing fitted, all in good condition?
failing all that, its down to cable adjustment.
not checked profile,bbut which bike..

Thanks Chaz.
C15,  ball bearing is in the clutch arm activator.
I have put it all together and i must admit i didn't check the gear selector 2 teeth and springs or the camplate.

have you got Ruperts book? it explains where the selector plate gets worn. also if any play how to check and repair.
there is also a length given for the push rod.
I sent my selector away to Draganfly to fit on a new splined shaft, when it came back they had replaced one of the spring loaded fingers that I thought was ok.
its our B40 we have problems with

I would make sure I was happy that gears are selecting properly. Then concentrate on the clutch adjustment starting with the springs. I use a metal ruler to ensure even lift all round. Then it's just a matter of the pushrod and cable

It may be worth reading this US bulletin from 1964.

Thank you everyone.
The casing will be off over the next few days to make sure the gears are selecting properly.
