Title: 1955 A7 SS footrest distance piece
Post by: RICH on 22 Dec, 2019, 11:04
Help!

Could anyone please advise me what the correct length should be for the nearside (splined) footrest distance piece? Part number 65.4851

I have two nearside distance pieces, but one is 5/8" longer than the other. Any idea why there are two different lengths ?

The bike in question is a 1955 A7 SS

Thanks

Rich

The nearside footrest, tube and the footrest stud all changed for 1958. I think to provide clearance for the exhaust which changed run for 1958, the stud became shorter, the spacer became shorter and the design of the footrest changed.

Cannot give you a length for 1954-1957 spacer but the 1958 on is approx 4 1/4 inch total length.

Hi,

I think that the different length is because the engine plates are in effect further in on one side than the other. I think that the longer one goes on the primary side. The gearbox sprocket and then the  clutch and primary chain case mean that the footrest is further out.
