Hello from a newbie. I have finally got a BSA but would really like some advice before I get into trouble with the electrics.
It's a '64 C15 that was a road bike but has been converted to a scrambler/trials. It does have a 12v system and front side light and rear tail/brake light. No key, just a 'kill' switch and a lights on/off switch. So far so good!
However, the rectifier/regulator has 3 yellow wires. The alternator has the original GY,GB,WG wires coming out. When unwrapping the tape around all of these wires they all came apart!!
The question I'd like to pose is does each alternator wire go to its own yellow wire or, like other 12v conversions posts suggest, do I join 2 alternator wires and just use 2 of the rectifier yellows? Or something else?
Any help is gratefully received... Thank you
Is it a rectifier or a regulator rectifier you are using?
Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure it's a 3 phase regulator rectifier (finned block with 3 yellow wires, 1 red, 1 black) but there are no markings on it at all and I'm also pretty sure it's an original single phase alternator with the GB, GY, WG wires. There is no zener diode in the wiring.
Am I better off just getting a reg/rectifier for a single phase alternator??
All sorted.... New Lucas RM21 stator out to a 12v reg/rect for single phase alternator.... Battery charging on minimal revs!!
