Hi All
Rebuilding my SR at the mo and it's sort the brakes time
I would like to get my existing shoes relined as getting the correct replacements doesn't seem that easy also I believe rivets are better than bonding !
Any advice pointers etc much appreciated
Mitch
Hi Mitch,
I think that all brake linings are bonded these days so it must be reliable. Any good brake lining company should be able to reline the shoes you have with a modern lining. You can tell them how you ride and what load you carry and they should be able to fit the most suitable linings. Also, it is worth having the hubs checked for ovality and having them skimmed if necessary. The brake company should then fit slightly thicker linings and machine them to give the optimum clearance and therefore efficiency of the brake. When fitting the brakes make sure every thing is centered. Even if the shoes are not fully floating it is worth holding the brake on whilst tightening the wheel spindle/nut to ensure that the shoes are centralised.
I hope this helps.
Dave.
