Title: M21 Six spring clutch
Post by: Mark N on 06 Nov, 2019, 13:15
The clutch chainwheel on my 1948 M21 is quite wobbly and can be moved in and out by a quarter of an inch. It feels like it's partially coming off the bearing.
I want to strip it down to component parts but can't get the clutch inner off. Am i being a doughnut? It's got to be simple, but it's moving slightly in and out, but that's it. HELP!!!!

I think 6 spring is the same clutch as fitted to my B31 and can be an absolute **** to get the centre out without the extractor.

Here.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BSA-6-SPRING-CLUTCH-HUB-PULLER-EXTACTOR-61-1912-61-3362-M20-EMPIRE-STAR-SJ702/113185761700?hash=item1a5a65a9a4:g:ZcsAAOSwwsZbZ9~K

Service sheets 610 or 308 have the basic info

Thanks Beenyboy; I never knew it needed an extractor. I shall get one on order tonight.
I've spent ages looking at service sheet 308, but it basically says nothing! ::)
Thanks again, watch this space...

Hi Mark

There is a comprehensive description of how to strip and setup a 6 spring clutch written by Magnetoman, who posts on www.britbike.com.

I can't find his relevant posts there ( a seach turns up hundreds of posts for him!) but I do have a copy that I made for my use. If you want it (>4 MB) drop me a message and I'll e-mail it to you.

cheers
Pete
