Hi everyone please can someone help, i am rebuilding my A65 1970 pre oil in frame, i have started putting the engine back to gether after re-ground crank and balance, all new bearings and bushes, re-bore pistons and conrods balanced, and head works, i have assembled the bottom end and found a shim on the bench >:( please see atached picture) the shim has a copper colour one side and steel the other, i cannot find any pictures in any manual where this should be!
i hope someone can advise me pleaseeeeee
Thrust washer which goes between crank web and timing side bush. Copper coloured side to crank.
Hi Julian, many thanks for that info, i was hoping someone would say it wasnt on the crank, i have put all the cases together now . Never mind good practice!
The last person/previous owner to put my Royal Star back together must have done the same as you, except also forgot to put the shims and shim retaining cup as well. Only thing was he didn't correct the mistake hence the 0.048" endfloat on the crank. (spec is max 0.003").
All OK now!
