Title: 1956 tank badges...
Post by: MGI on 25 Oct, 2019, 18:06
I have had one of my B31 tank badges nicked, the sort that fit into a bracket on the tank and slide downwards to locate. Are these obtainable from anywhere?

Ive got a pair at the unit but like the picture they are screw on to tank same as 65-8220 do the slide on ones have a bracket/clip screwed to them that slides down onto a tank bracket or is the clip moulded onto the badge on your other one.

edit, you also need https://www.draganfly.co.uk/index.php/component/hikashop/product/9058- and screws
so, yes, they are available

Page from 1956 B group parts book.

The badge 65 8220 (56)is attached to the clip 42 8020 (54) with small screws and nuts, the clip slides into the bracket on the tank.

They are bastards for nicking it - scum of the earth!

Thanks for the assistance, am on the case.

Yes, they are scum, but worryingly, they are also old bike enthusiasts. Worse thing is howeasy it is to remove the things!

Chaz...

The roundels have c/sunk screw holes at 3.0.clock and 9.0.clock, the bracket slides into position over a flat prong in side the circular depression where the roundel locates. Two small screws attach the roundel to the bracket once the bracket is slid over the flat prong!.

(If you can understand that description!)

Hi Chaz...

No, they don't have the plastic underpart, they have a small metal bracket which slides over a small flat piece of metal shaped like a bridge.
The badge then screws onto the bracket. Initially I thought it must have fallen off as I rode home from the Welland Steam Show but when I realised how tricky it is to remove (bearing in mind the bracket also went AWOL) it became clear that it had been pinched.

Thanks to all you guys who gave advice, Draganfly had them listed but out of stock, Kidderminster Motorcycles had them in stock and for less! I collected them today, I also purchased a new chain from them  Ideal!

Actually Chaz...The ones you pictured are the correct ones for my bike, I diid not realise that the two images in grey were the reverse of the badges, I thought they were additional back plates which must be screwed direct into the tank. They cost me £57.00 for the pair inc the Vodka & Tonic and the small brackets and the screws which I found reasonable.

Cheers!
Bill.
