Title: Clutch operation
Post by: Phil C on 22 Oct, 2019, 13:50
Afternoon all.  Please enlighten me:

Back wheel off the ground.

Bike in neutral. Wheel can be turned freely by hand.  Okay.

Put bike in gear. Can't turn it freely by hand. Okay.

Pull in clutch lever, still can't turn it by hand.  Why is that? I've looked at the clutch adjustment, which seems okay to me.

Phil.

Try freeing the clutch - engine switched off - bike in neutral - pull in clutch - operate kickstart - should free sticking plates.

Thanks Julian, that's sorted it. I had tried it earlier, but only gave it two or three kicks. It needed more than that. Isa there any particular cause?  I had the clutch apart about, say, a year ago, but can't remember whether I renewed the springs, if that's significant.  Thanks again.   Phil.

Not unusual for a clutch to need freeing, I always free the A10 clutch before tarig. If it gets to be a problem probably sticky plates which need cleaning off.
