Thought I should check out what I have instead of just using it with a big smile on my face. The engine number is clear and reads A65DC2558 and the number on the engine mounting lug looks like 11-4111 the last digit could be 2 the numbers are raised, not stamped in. The problem is my Glass's check book has no frame numbers anything like this. Any thoughts?
Its not the frame no. , its more likely the part no. of the lug casting. The frame number on the later models is stamped on the left hand down tube close to the headstock, I'm not sure about the earlier models, but someone on here will know.
In the manual it says it's on the engine mounting boss but you will be correct as it is raised it will be a casting number or something. Will check and see what is on the other mounting.

on later models here
:)
An A65DC prefixed engine, which is 1965 season (which started in September 1964) would have originally been fitted in a frame with A50B prefixed number.
The number should be on the headstock reinforcing plate just in front of the tank.
The front left engine mount location was used from the 1966 season. I think you are looking at a later manual

or earlier models here
:D
So engine number A65DC2558, frame number A50 5082.
Sorry, I got it the wrong way round. Its been so long since I looked at my A50 frame no. I had forgotten where it is. Mind you, I've had the frame powder coated so unlikely to ever see it again, but its under there somewhere if anyone asks!

oops, might upset a MOT tester if you get one as they check it. I restamped mine before they powdercoated, then got a label printer and printed out the number by the side . worse case is a ham fisted tester might take the decision to scrape the paint off to check leaving bare metal.
Thanks for your concern chaz but I don't MOT it!

ahh, the great debate regarding insurance and road worthiness... wont go into it here.
I was drawing attention to the fact that those that do will likely be upset that the tester has scraped the paint off , also if stolen its easier to identify , ok especially if no plates have been removed.
