Title: C10 Gearbox oil seal
Post by: Rick Rybicki on 19 Oct, 2019, 16:00
Hi, 1946 C10 3 spd box. Diagrams show a gearbox sprocket oil seal. From my experiences with A10 boxes, the oil seal is replaced from outside the box after removing the sprocket and that's what I expected with the C10.
On my C10 box there is no oil seal visible behind the sprocket. Is the oil seal fitted from the inside of the box or do I have an older type box that has no oil seal. I've got the box out and partially dismantled to replace a broken stud but don't want to dismantle it any further only to find that there's no oil seal to replace!!!!
Cheers, Rick.

Rick

The 1946 parts book certainly shows an oil seal.

The snag is that you have to dismantle the whole box to get at it.

It fits between the main casting and the ball bearing so fitted from the inside.

Thanks again Julian. Yes, Thought that would be the case. I'll just carry on dismantling until I get to the damn thing. Probably about time it had a new oil seal. The original is probably pretty crusty by now!!!
