Title: Haynes Manual
Post by: Morleydog on 18 Oct, 2019, 16:28
Hello again. Recently bought a 1960 C15 (my first BSA and indeed classic) and thought I would buy a Haynes manual to help with the eventual strip down. After paying £15  :-[ and waiting over 2 weeks for it to arrive, today it finally arrived.
I bought the manual BSA Unit Singles 1958 to 1972 (the green one with  a trail / trials bike on the front..
All the bikes referenced in the front are B models.
Have I got something wrong?

Apologies I have just seen on the back cover that the C15 is covered.
Dont know why it is not mentioned at the front but there you go,

This site has free downloads of unit singles service sheets, manuals for later models and parts books.

Worth seeing what they have.

unfortunately, a discussion took place in the trade many years ago when Haynes started bike manuals.
they didnt have much experience tearing down bikes and it showed in the manuals compared to car ones. since then, however they have got better but are probably twice the thickness they were.
this one (BSA singles) , is one of the old style ones ( Ive got a shelf full of the same sort). the thing is, it is useful read alongside the BSA parts and maintainance books on line.

The Rupert Ratio Unit Single Engine Manual is excellent. Written by Dave Smith who is I believe the clubs C15 technical consultant.

Rupert Ratio manuals on BSA singles on both the "engines" and "everything but the engine" are excellent and give way more information than the Haynes manual. I did a full nut and bolt resto on a B40 (350 version of the C15) and the books were invaluable. I think they are on Amazon at £25 for both books but they will save you a fortune as you will actually know what you are looking at.
