Title: Matching numbers?
Post by: Jhg1958 on 14 Oct, 2019, 14:54
How do I know my A10 frame is the original for the engine and does I matter?  My engine number DA101013792 and the frame number is GA713213.  The log book states 1961.  I have some doubts about the frame.  The log book states a blue colour but the mudguards etc are chrome (a bit rusty).

Bikes are identified by their frame numbers not by the engine number that frame is from 1961 and the engine is also 1961 assuming you have typed the 10 twice by mistake. but as to wether that engine was in that frame when it left the factory only a dating certificate will tell you that this can be applied for from the dating officer Steve Foden the process is listed on the website. The bike could well have been blue when it left the factory and would probably have had blue mudguards the chrome guards I would suspect were an addition from a previous owner.

I would get a dating certificate from the dating officer. This will tell you when the bike with that frame was despatched and if the engine no. was the one that accompanied it as it left Armoury Rd. If it was originally a different engine, the certificate will say 'engine from the same period' or similar.
