Title: A50 side stand fastening
Post by: chaz on 14 Oct, 2019, 11:39
apart from the carb and starting the A50 chop since buying it, the only thing Ive looked at is the side stand.
the stand lug is on a round clamp around the frame tube. Ive noticed it is loose allowing the bike to tip over more than safe.
is the clamp, bolted on, pegged or welded in position?

just looking as I will be stripping the bike down in the future and the frame getting sprayed so want to fix before paint.

I believe it's normally a proper brazed or welded lug, maybe cut off on your chop.  If you're getting the frame coated you'll need to fix  it securely.  I have fitted accessory clamp-type side stands in the past and used a tag of weld out of sight somewhere.

thanks DG
couldnt remember from my two thunderbolts, but the A50 must run lower as no centre stand, the clamp/fitting moves around 15degrees.
so will get welded, its a standard OEM sidestand as I can get aftermarket chrome ones but they always seem to move or are lightweight assemblies.

The stand is a clevis type and the bolt has a flat head to give clearance for the spring which is fixed behind both stand and lug. The holes in both wear so it may be a good idea to bush both before powder coating with steel bushes.
