(1965 B40F) Toying with the idea of removing and replacing the copper tube which takes oil to the rockers, I thought I'd have a look to see how easy/difficult that might be. It looks as though access to the tube (where it pushes onto a short vertical rubber tube which in turn pushes onto a short metal tube at the oil tank) would be easier if I removed the tinware in front of the battery compartment. But removing the tinware looks tricky: there is a bolt which goes through a bracket near the oil tank, and I guess there must be a nut on the other side. Can't see that, and it's in a very confined space. I wonder if the nut might be welded in place? If not, then it looks a difficult place to get a spanner of any kind. Anyone familiar with it please?
Very frustrated that I'm having trouble attaching a photo. When I try the system seems to want to show all the photos I have in the folder. Never had that problem before.
Phil.
I thought you were going to put a blob of araldite on the pipe instead of replacing it?
I can't see that removing that panel is necessary. The replacement pipes are generally longer than you need and easily manipulated where the need to be routed.
I did put a smear of araldite on it, but then noticed there were two or three other areas where it had clearly been scraped. So am just toying with the idea of replacing it. Phil.
I don't recall removing that bit of tinware to fit the rocker feed pipe.
If it is access to the oil tank for fitting the connector pipe it may be easier to remove the oil tank bolts ( cant remember if there are 2 or 3 to undo). You will have to remove the battery and then you have access to the fittings inside the tank. There is also one which clamps the tank to the frame and mudguard but you just need to loosen that one. The tank can then be pulled away from the bike a little so you have better access to the pipe connection.
As said before, why not leave it? It is very unlikely to snap.
Here is the photo. See the bolt I was talking about, beyond the copper pipe? Presumably there must be a nut on the other side of it?
Would I need to empty the oil tank to use your method, Adrian?
Phil.
PS still haven't decided whether to do the job.
Pretty sure that top bolt goes into a nut welded to the inside face of the oil tank.
Personally, I wouldn't touch it if its not leaking - can be a tricky job reassembling all the tinware correctly.
If you do replace it with an assembly that includes the banjos blow it through to check both feeds are clear and not blocked with solder - I had that recently with a similar assembly for my Ariel. You'll likely need a new rubber piece too as I would expect the old one to be hard and stuck to the pipes and likely to leak if you refitted it.
Cheers,
Bernie

you don't need to drain the oil from the tank first. The feed for the rockers is from the return pipe and this drains into the tank above the oil level.
My C15 does not have clips on either end of the small diameter rubber oil hose into which the rocker feed pipe is pushed.
Can I presume that is correct, at least the exploded parts diagram does not show any clips on the smaller rubber hoses at the oil tank?
That's what it's like on my B40 and I think that's how it's meant to be on mine.
Thanks for confirming what I thought, Phil.
I've just had the rocker feed pipe off my 1963 B40 and gained access by removing the battery. I also removed the oil tank, but that was so that I could clean and repaint the back of it and tidy up the battery tray. As long as the screw heads of the pipe claps are facing the left side there'll be no need to remove any tinware.
