Title: C15 cotter pin “direction”
Post by: johnan on 29 Sep, 2019, 20:23
Another possible simple question, but I wonder what the correct answer is!

I have always inserted cotter pins into my C15's kickstart lever so that the threaded end is facing the front of the bike, but I have seen many pictures with them fitted the other way round, and I wondered if there is a correct way for longest life of the pin and pinion.

Or do they wear out just as quickly either way?!

I've always put mine in with the nut under the kickstart just in case if the nut comes off, the pin will still be there holding the kickstarter in place.

Hi,
I install as per the manual or spares list plate diagram. A quick look at the plates show the C15 unit nut down, interestingly after 1965 plate shows nut up, the A65 changes in 1965 as well.

Best wishes...

The cotter and kickstart lever and shaft may dictate the direction to fit it.

Thanks as ever for the replies folks, looks like most prefer the nut down, or towards the rear..assuming it is as on a C15 with the cotter recess in the kickstart pinion on the upper side of it.
