Could be a warped carb body. Had an issue with mine where with a cold engine the slide would stick at the very top of the body. (It was a new slide in an old body)

When I pushed down on the air filter (Starfire) it would ping back down. Once engine started it was fine. I suppose heat loosened it all up.

I remedied it by taking carb off and 'bedding' it in with some T cut. Just sliding it up and down for a few minutes to make sure it was all as smooth as it could be. A good clean with petrol and it's been fine.

I've got a new Amal on the M21 and it used to stick as the body was oval  ::)
I squeezed it back to shape with pipe grips  :o and it's better, but not perfect.

a common fault is that the nuts are done up too tight, this distorts the body making the slide stick. I know it needs to be air tight but with good gaskets and O ring (if fitted) they dont need too much especially if lock nut type used.

My carb is also new from amal.
Bit odd they stick but it could be down to me tighting it up to much.
