Hi all - having started to rebuild my 1961 B40 motor I would appreciate a little advice from the collective please. My cam and drive pinions are both marked and while I highlighted the dots, that I was sure were the relevant timing marks with white paint pen, on assembly both marks appear to be relating to the crest of a tooth rather than a tooth and a valley - now I'm doubting everything!!
So is there an idiots guide that would let me set the valve timing independently of the marks? I have a timing disc and the Rupert bible.
Call me insecure but I just like a little certainty when it comes to the prospect of pistons slamming into valves. That is certain that they won't. Many thanks
I don't have my RR book with me at the moment as am away from home but - I remember getting confused when I reassembled mine after reading the destructions. I think that I got confused between whether to use the the V mark or a | mark and again - I think - that the V was on a tooth and I needed to use the |
Don't take that as gospel but is it possible that you have the same confusion?
Cheers,
Bernie
Hi Bernie - many thanks for replying - the cam wheel has only got 2 dots on it next to the teeth - one is vague the other is a little more definite. I was hoping on for method where I could ignore all the markings. The cam wheel is old and battle scarred.
