Title: 6v to 12v conversion condenser question
Post by: johnan on 09 Sep, 2019, 12:37
More advice required here folks.

I converted my C15 to 12volts and all is well and charging OK.

Obviously all bulbs and battery have been changed to 12 volts but I have never seen a reference to whether the points condenser needs changed as well, and if so to which one?

The engine runs fine but I am concerned the existing condenser may allow excessing arcing at the points and drastically shorten their life.

...or are all the condensers the same whether running on 6v or 12v, and my concern is unjustified?

Any advice or experience of others gratefully received!

The Lucas instructions for converting to 12 volts says that there is no need to change it unless you have an 18D type distributor.

The C15 distributor is a type 15D.

So appears no need to change capacitor.
