Title: Grease nipples
Post by: Phil C on 05 Sep, 2019, 16:24
The Star arrived today, and in it is another very interesting article from Paul Greenfield, this time about the grease nipples on his B40. He explains that on his swinging arm there are three Zerk type nipples, which a grease gun will snap onto. The other nipples on his bike are a different kind. So he unscrewed the one on the speedo drive and replaced it with a Zerk type. The ones on the brakes however are not screw-in, but integral to the brake spindles. These he filed off, then drilled and tapped holes to take Zerk-type nipples.

I have two questions:

1. My swinging arm on my 1965 B40F only seems to have two nipples, not three. Is that normal?

2. My grease gun, which fits the nipples on my swing-arm, doesn't fit the integral-type nipples on the brakes. If I'd rather not file off the nipples, how do I get grease in?

Phil.

The central grease nipple was only used on the early models, the parts were changed from mid 1961 to the grease nipple at either end.

The change gave more positive lubrication to the bushes.

The parts bulletin below explains.
