Title: Handlebars to fit A50/65 Star
Post by: DG on 17 Aug, 2019, 10:56
Greetings,
does anyone have any suggestions for handlebars to fit a nacelle model unit twin?

My new to me 1964 A50 came with very shiny but awkward 'bars ( possibly pattern Matchless ) which were set angled down because the lower bend was wrong for the top shroud cutouts.  I've fitted some tatty autojumble find 'bars with about 3" rise and they're comfortable....but I don't know what they're off.

I suggest you use ones that suit your preferred riding position best and you feel most comfortable with, regardless of what make and model they are for. Just as long as the length of you cables are adequate, not too short or long then what the hell!
My 1970 Royal Star came with standard height but quite short across the bars and this made the steering heavy. So, I've changed them for US bars with a higher raise and wider.
The bars on my B25SS OIF were standard at about 32" wide to go with the Street Scrambler image, but I found these too wide as it felt like you had to lean forward too much when tight turning. I sold the bike so not my problem but I would have shortened these if I had kept the bike.

Hi Chris,
thanks for the reply.  Yes,  I'll end up with something comfortable for me.  In the '80's and '90's I had slightly raised 'bars ( but not Export/Western ) on my first two A50's and an A65.
What I haven't explained very well is that the top cover on my Star Twin nacelle is hard to get back on unless the handlebars have the lower bends in about the right place.  I didn't want to buy some online and then find they don't fit.
As I've now got the bike insured and free-taxed, I'll just get out and enjoy it!

 :) :)

Hi Chris. I used to have the western bars on my earlier A65. It was ex police and I wonder if the bars were original. I'm thinking of going that route with my current A50-----so----what bars are you actually using. How much rise etc.

I got them off an autojumble stall at Kempton. They were labelled A50/A65 US but who knows. Anyway, they have a rise of 5" and are 28" across the ends.
Hope that helps.

I bought the wrong bars for mine and the front brake and clutch cable fouled the rev counter and speedo. They were big western bars.

Did you replace the cables with the correct length ones?
