Title: ABBA stands
Post by: RichardAB on 12 Aug, 2019, 23:51
Hi does anyone use an "ABBA stand" for there BSA? Looking at website and YouTube it may be a solution to get those heavy bikes onto a stand

as a business I have 2 Abba stands and 3 pairs of other normal front and back paddock stands. the Abba ones I never use.
you need a set of pins for each bike , another £140+ I dont want to spend so I knock something up on the lathe only use for the odd superbike.
the thought is you can use two ways depending if you want to lift front or back end.
Ive yet to be convinced they are sturdy enough.
If you dont have any other way..........

Appreciate your feedback Chaz. I was thinking of an alternative to heaving the bike onto centre stand as I prefer to use centre stand over side. Maybe if soley for this I should go for a front wheel Chock stay stand? Also third of price of ABBA

have a look at the construction...
a sliding square section at the bottom and as you wind the location pin in at the top you then cause the top end to spread , hard to explain but there is a single clamp bolt on the bottom and the gap at the top spreads.
believe me, an A10 or A65 is easier to get on the centre stand than a Triumph Trophy or some of the BMW's I see that the owners leave on side stands and the centre seizes and rusts , they are heavy and troublesome to do.

a friend has one for his new Kawasaki 1000 but only for maintainence then off. they probably do a good job BUT as with many multi option tools and kit you build in variables, which can fail. do the bottom adjuster up hard too many times and you dent the box section, drop the clamping bolt or drop something heay on it and its a plastic knob. can crack and break.
