Title: A65 Layshaft Needle roller bearing
Post by: shaun evans on 30 Jul, 2019, 19:43
Hello all,

I have a failed needle roller bearing on the casing end of the layshaft (closed type) which I need to replace. I can't remember which end I put it in from some time ago. Can anyone tell me which side I need to drive it out from?

It seems a little awkward to drive it out from the primary side as you can't quite get a straight "hit" on it. I'm hoping it can be done without splitting the cases!

Any pointers here would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.................Shaun.

I have a 1963 A65 and some years ago I completely stripped the gearbox and relaced all the bearings including the needle roller bearings without taking the whole unit out of the frame and splitting so it can be done.

Hi,
You can knock it out either way.

Best wishes...

The case around the bearing needs heat, the best way is to use a suitable sized drift or maybe a socket.
