Title: M20 gearboxes
Post by: Mike Farmer on 25 Jul, 2019, 10:57
 :) :)

Hi advice please.  Are the early and later M20 gearboxes identical fitment... Can I do a straight swap.

I have a 1944 machine with original type box. I also have available a 1949/50 box which I wish to use.

Your help appreciated

Hello mike
I think the only difference may be in the clutch lever, the WM20 box had the lever which was vertical, pivoting from the centre, the later ones had the normal levers coming out the top laying horizontal, if that makes sense to you.

Hi John :) :)

You are absolutely right about the clutch levers and that's the only technical difference that I can find regarding fitment. Of course the speedo drive is from the gearbox rather than the front wheel(I think)

So I shall probably go down that route.

Thanks a heap
