Title: B25 with Hiccups
Post by: ramwing7 on 14 Jul, 2019, 15:41
I have a 1969 BSA B25 that starts fine, idles fine, and accelerates with gusto.
The problem is when I try to go along at steady throttle at about 30 mph.
It then hiccups and jerks like the world's worst chain snatch.
I'm guessing carburetor, but don't know exactly where to start.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

If it is of any comfort my 69 Starfire is behaving exactly as you describe, I am looking at points gap and how advanced or regarded the timing is. I will be getting my specs out as my sight ain't what it used to be.

 :) :)

Sounds like it could be timing. You could try closing the points a couple of thou. Might help

I think electronic ignition is the top of my shopping list at Kempton this weekend!

Try a new condenser first, it's a lot cheaper.

If you do go for electronic ignition I can recommend the Wassel one. Easy to fit. Good instructions. Good quality.

Had one on my Starfire for 5 years and haven't  had to touch it since the day I fitted it. It has never misses a beat. Starts 1st or 2nd kick. Good value. I think you can still get it fir about £ 75

To be honest it has been my intention to go for electronic ignition, I have fitted them to my my D3 Bantam and it now starts like a Jap bike. I have done the same with my Kawasaki Z1 as well.

I second this advice, I've fitted a Wassel to my Victor with great results. (The control box fits nicely between the webs of the frame at the steering tube/ top tube junction)

Do Wassel sell them for a C15 6v distributor model.

I'm guessing they don't then!

It may be worth typing C15 electronic ignition into EBay and seeing what it comes up with.

Don't think Wassell do a suitable kit as I looked in the past.
There is one available - I think it may be Boyer but a voltage regulator also needs to be fitted.
Look at the Feked site.
