Hello everyone. For a change, I'm not seeking help. Just sharing a bit of info, for interest's sake. It looks like I've finally fixed the oil leak on my 1965 B40F. The leak appears to have been from the grommet where the alternator wires leave the primary chaincase. I put some silicon sealant on the inside part of the grommet, put on a new gasket, refitted the cover, put oil in, and took her for a ride. Lo and behold, no leak! Very satisfying.
I thought I might be on the right track before I did the job, because when talking to my hugely experienced local motorcycle repair man, he said they leaked there when they were new!
Anyone else experienced leaks from there? Is it common?

You deserve a drink for perserverence on that oil leak conundrum. Bask in the knowledge that you proved the boss ( at least until something else crops up ) Hope the leak stays sorted.
