Title: WM20 gearbox
Post by: Mike Farmer on 08 Jun, 2019, 13:32
 :) :)

Greetings
In the closing ???????stages of renovation and find that my M20 gearbox is filled with grease.
I understand that this was not unusual with some other early marques but I was unaware of it with Beesa's, especially as it has an oil filler point.
I think it may be an earlier owner's method of dealing with a clapped oil seal.
Thoughts on this would be fully appreciated.
On the same subject I am trying to find an exploded view of the gearbox 1944. I've looked in the library and can't see one. Help if possible please
Thank you

Mike

Hi Mike,

The M20 gearbox was not filled with grease, however I have also come across this.  I think the BSA specification was 40W or 50W straight oil.  A lot of the gears are drilled to to lubricate the shafts.  There's a good diagram on the draganfly webiste:

https://www.draganfly.co.uk/bsa/bsa/a710--b3133--c101112--m202133/category/902-b-m-group-1938-62-plunger-rigid

Another common improvement is to replace the bearing on the sleeve gear with a sealed bearing and remove the inner seal so it continues to be lubricated.

All the best,

Glenn

Hi Glen

Thanks for that, very helpful and I was able to "get" the picture from Draganfly.

Much appreciated
