Title: A65 head bearings
Post by: Mike Farmer on 31 May, 2019, 15:51
 :) :)

I recently purchased a new set of head bearings. They sit "proud" both to and bottom. They also have threads in the internal 'edge'. What have I purchased. Yep I've already binned the old ones.

Don't know what you bought, but NEVER throw anything away. I always buy my parts from Kidderminster M/C's, he knows the bikes. One big BSA spares company uses data bases and office staff to do the orders. They are not always correct.

Photo shows a bottom cup fitted to the frame of an A10 which passed through my hands a few years ago. You can see it stands proud. I found it hard to keep these in adjustment.

My A10 has bearings supplied by C and D Autos, the cups are not completely flush with frame, you can just feel the edge with a fingernail, nothing like the one in the photo. The C and D item fitted perfectly.

The internal threads are normal, for screwing in the extractor to remove cups.

Hiya guys. I didn't actually throw them away. I can't find em so having binned them is a realistic assumption. bUt I agree with your sentiments.

The point about them being proud is not so much the fact of it, as that it increases the distance between the top and bottom yoke by about 3/16  to a 1/4 inch. thus the top shrouds do not fit properly. So I shall I think need to change them again.
