Title: Petrol filler cap
Post by: Greenfield on 10 May, 2019, 14:55
Is it possible to refurb the petrol filler cap from my B40? The gasket is hard and crumbling but I can't see how to remove/replace it.

It is a cork seal. Gently lever the old one out and carefully push the new one in.

Prodding the edge with a screwdriver I think its fibre rather that cork. The whole brass interior is spring loaded and I guess held together with what's behind the brass ring in the centre. I'm a bit reluctant to simply cut the gasket away without knowing how to replace it, but saying that its not brilliant that bits are dropping into the tank.

Replacing is easy, just push the new seal in, it is flexible.

This is what it looks like with the seal out.

Thanks Julian. I broke out the old fibre gasket a few mms at a time and ordered a 2 1/2" cork gasket (82-4048) from Hawkshaws. With a section of inner edge of the gasket seated in the brass 'slot', it was flexible enough to gradually work it fully into position. Job done.
