Title: a bit of "clunk and grind"
Post by: Matt Brighton on 16 Apr, 2019, 06:39
Hello

Just a few days in to my ownership of my lovely RGS Replica.

Very happy with the bike,  but a couple of gearbox/clutch related niggles I would like advice on...

Fron standstill into first its quite a grind/clunk .. and under acceleration (admittedly in higher gear) clutch slip.

Under way ..... the gearbox is fine and snicks into gears nicely, neutral is easily selected from its or second.

Any advice on adjustment and diagnosis would be gratefully received.

Thank you

Matt (Brighton)

Clutch plates not separating correctly, need to strip down clean and adjust, perhaps the abrasive plates are worn down, check them with a micrometer, I cannot remember off hand what the correct thickness should be, should tell you in the book, or Julian will put an answer , I'm sure.

Problem solved  :)

I just needed to tweak the pushrod adjuster in the gearbox -

- only by less than an 8th of a turn (about 5 minutes if it were a clock face)  but has made all the difference and now snicks into first from neutral without protest.

Ordered a haynes today which will provide me with some bedtime reading too
