:)
Greetings.
This one really has got to me.
Many many times in the past I have assembled A50 A65 clutches(Plus a bunch of others) However I now have a serious problem because having tried every thing I know I cant compress the springs enuff to get the nuts on.
I know that there are deeper cups available but wonder what is the value of using them.
Could my bolts be too short. Its a 4 spring set up.
Your advice sought yet again.

daft question?? are they the ones you took off?
been few years since I did my thunderbolts 1966 and 1967, is it because they are not located so sitting on top of some lugs instead of down in?
as I said , its been a while
Hi,
If it helps, bolts should be 1 7/8" long.
Best wishes...

Stripped it down. Mine are only 1+ 9/16th.
Probably only just enough to make that initial grip difference.
Just checking what SRM are selling will let you know. I know they are available at several other places.
I guess that I can always make some---that will be seriously boring????????

I bought a new set of springs last year, same problem. Longer springs ?? Bought a complete SRM Clutch in the end, brilliant.

After much speaky speak and assistance. It would appear that the length 1:9/16th is correct for the early 4 spring clutch. The later 3 spring clutch pins are indeed 1:7/8th.
So I shall simply fit the longer ones. If that all turns to worms for some reason I'll let you know. I assume the difference was to accommodate the extra clutch plate: thats a guess

Hi Mike I had a similar problem with my A65 that I posted some time ago. I ended up with deeper cups because it was impossible to compress the springs. A friend of mine gave me an idea to use the old springs to align and compress the plates and change to new springs one by one. Hope that helps :)

Hi all.
Thanks for your various inputs. Right now it all helps so as I said going to use longer bolts. There should be plenty of room so I don't see a problem. I particularly like the idea of using old springs to do the initial compression.
I also have a new set that are some 3/16th longer than the original. (Measured not guessed)
