Title: OIF A65 Exhaust pipes. Are there any that actually fit?
Post by: Servodyne on 19 Mar, 2019, 20:41
Hello all.
I made the mistake of buying some new exhaust pipes for my OIF A65 on fleabay some time ago and as they were cheap, I thought it was worth the risk. Beautiful chrome, good bends and nice welds, what could possibly go wrong? Anyway, some time later when I came to fit them, the brackets were all over the place, with one side pointing up and the other pointing down. I managed to get the LH side to align with the engine stud but there was no way I could do anything with the RH so I ended up cutting both brackets off midway. The plan was to use loose angle brackets like on the T140 to attach them to the frame. Next problem was the balance pipe. The balance pipe is such a snug fit on the pipes that there is little or no room for any misalignment and mine are way out of alignment, so basically I've given up hope of trying to make them fit.
Can anybody give any recommendations as to which company/supplier can make them so they actually fit the bike. Failing that, I could get a pair made up but without the balance pipe as I'm not convinced it does any good anyway.
Cheers
Jim

Used to use armourers years ago but not recently, I just persevere with originals as new ones invariably go blue anyway. I suspect it's like a lot of parts now, being made overseas....we all know where and standard of plating.
Probably a case of Chinese whispers, made from a copy of a copy of a copy that was modified and company who made them had no experience of the bike trade. I bought a trade pack of  'foreign' made footrest rubbers from my normal supplier" if you fit them one way they stuck up, turn over and took away ground clearance, got a pack of 10 pairs with off centre internal moulding, was credited by supplier and told to throw them away BUT they couldn't advise when next batch were being made... Quality control....

Hi,
I have recently had 1 set for a A65 another for a A10 from Armour Motor Products that were fine.

Bests wishes...

I've used Armours pipes in the past and they have been good. Interestingly the pictures on their web page doesn't show the front engine mount brackets and the pipes are cheaper than the pre-OIF.
Have they deleted these brackets because the pipes are notoriously difficult to fit and manufacture?
Cheers

Got mine from Armours for my 1972 OIF A65, snug fit, nice chrome. I had to make my own brackets to the down tubes which I knew about. No regrets.

Did they have small brackets welded to the down tubes for you to attach your own brackets?

Yes a chrome bracket as part of the pipes, pre drilled. Quite enjoyed fitting them. If you PM me your mobile or email I can email or Whatsapp pics, I can't post on here.
