Title: A65 Gear Change Quadrant
Post by: Mike Farmer on 11 Mar, 2019, 19:16
 :) :)

Greetings. About 1965/66 BSA changed the A50/65 gearchange quadrant.

Does anyone know if they are interchangeable. Just one more thing I didn't even know about.---Until today.

I dont think they do. Different camplate also.

Lots of changes between 1965 season and 1966 season.

Thanks for that Julian once again in your debt. I'd forgotten the change of cam plate.

Difficult to say. The '64 parts list shows 68-3098 as the Quadrant only and the '66 parts list shows 68-3294 as the Quadrant complete so is the actual quadrant the same but the later one includes all the bits of is it different? The bits that go in like the plungers and springs are the same part numbers for both years, so maybe the reason the quadrant part nos differ is that one is bare and one is complete?
Intriguing eh?

I have looked at the details and conclude that at the mo its inconclusive???.

I have two boxes going in at this time and don't know the history of either. I THINK they are both early type. I also have a two or three Quadrants. So I'll have to just give it a go. Fortunatly I should be able to get some idea before shoving it all into the frame.

Thanks for your input

Below is from the 1969 parts book and shows a sketch of quadrant 68 3294, the 1966/67/68 books have a different sketch which looks like the earlier part 68 3098.

Apart from the larger diameter where it goes through the inner cover the stop plate locates on machined flats and is secured by a grub screw.

The earlier stop plate is located by a key and secured by a grub screw.

Given the difference in diameter you could not  mix the early and later parts.
