Just overhauled my 55 shooter everything back together except the oil feed (no oil getting to engine). As part of my overhaul I washed out the oil tank with petrol to clear gunk, now having put the airline through the pipes and filling with oil I can't get it flowing through to the engine? Will I need to prime the oil feed pipe? HELP!
Undo the feed pipe at the crankcase union and let the oil flow from the tank then replace.
You could have an airlock.
You could use a pressure oil can to force oil into the union incase the airlock is between union and oil pump.
Thanks Julian, Oil will not run from the oil tank union. As you say, my next option is using a pressure oil can and priming the outlet pipe inside the oil tank. I've tried blowing all the pipes and unions out with an air line to no avail. I clutching at straws now.
I am using silkoline 40 sae oil.
Cold oil does not flow very fast with the oil pipe off.
I had oil feed problems after an oil change, caused by an air lock between the crankcase union and the pump. It was necesssary to remove the timing cover and slacken the pump fixings to bleed the air out
Thanks again Julian, yes cold oil maybe needs warming a little, or maybe a thinner grade to get things moving initially.
It seems like a blockage in the tank outlet but air runs through it fine both ways, mystery!
Never had problems with oil coming out of a Brit bike, the problem was keeping it in! haha.
