Title: A50 oil flush
Post by: chaz on 01 Mar, 2019, 06:47
the 'Bee' was imported and presumably drained of oil for shipping. The motor turns over freely with plugs removed so hoping no seize or bad news inside.  while its waiting for the next step I thought I might run some oil through it. Im thinking of some warm oil into the oil tank then down into the engine. looking for the best idea for warming up some oil to basically do a flush before stripping. the bike wont actually be running just pumping the oil through by hand.

Hi,
Extract from manual that may save flushing sludge from the tank into the engine.

Best wishes...

Are you planning to split the crankcases and rebuild the bottom end? If so then a sludge trap clean is also a must-do so maybe limited benefit from flushing the engine through first...?

Cheers,
Bernie

Ive rebuilt 2 A65's and an A7 before all were British owned bikes. Im presuming the remains of the oil in this one is years old and will at some time be stripping the motor down but thinking of thinning any sludge out first. I dont think parafin will be strong enough so was going to try something warm as at the moment dropping the sump filter is like treacle but only a spoonful so needs thinning first but dont want to run petrol through which would work as Im not sure when I want to strip it. Once drained I will fill with fresh oil as its cheap enough for me.this will stop the rust.
