Title: fuel and tank
Post by: mashermick on 10 Feb, 2019, 13:52
my 61 super rocket tank has been painted already ,there is a light dusting of rust inside of the tap holes and  tank looks ok inside with a slight rusting at the edges, would it be best to try electrolysis before sealing , (never done that before ,some advice would be helpful !)  the choice of sealants is large ,any suggestions !

I don't know anything about electrolysis but have used a few different tank sealants over the years, have just recently used POR15 for the first time and it is very good and easy to use just like pouring thick paint into the tank. One word of warning though about any tank sealer that you may want use it is important that you carefully follow the instructions given for each sealant do not try to take any shortcuts.

POR 15 was recommended to me by a guy who will be kicking a dent out of my A50 tank. The POR 15 range is very well received in the Classic Car world, particularly their anti rust paint (like Kurust but much better).
All of these kits come with a de-ruster which is vital to ensure that the sealer doesnt lift. If your tank just has a light rust internally, then the de-ruster should do the trick, otherwise you will need to clear the loose bits out with a handful or two of old nuts or gravel, i.e anything with sharp edges.
