Title: 1956 B31 Lighting switch
Post by: BazF on 17 Jan, 2019, 01:54
Gents,
On my '56 B31 the lighting switch slops around, occasionally shorting out.
I can see no way of securing the switch to the headlamp shell to stop this.
Seems it should be fitted to the hole and twisted some way to secure it ?
If this is the case, when the switch is operated it promptly comes loose again.
The parts book does not show any spring, clip or whatever.

The switches are usually quite a tight fit, located by the 2 pips on the cowl which register with 2 recesses in the switch body. When in place the switch is retained by a wire clip.

The first photo is from a Lucas catalogue showing the clip and the second from Munros book with a sketch of the switch assembled in the cowl.

Thanks for that JS. Now I have seen it, I remember those clips from my B31 which I had in 1962, and various Triumphs.
Missing from my B31, just have to find one now. It is not shown on my 1956 B31 parts list.

The clips, being a Lucas part are one of the many parts which are listed in the Lucas equipment books, rather than thye BSA books.
